Who's getting tax breaks?

Homestead exemptions, granted for homes occupied by their owners, make up as much as 95 percent of eligible property in some townships but as little as 70 percent in others. That's because some townships have more renters and some have assessors who are better at finding improper exemptions.
The map below is interactive. Click or touch a township to see the number of homes with a homestead exemption and the percent of homes in the township with the exemption, for the year 2015.
